Description: When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her on a trip to the Louvre…to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie traveled to Austria…to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own—scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving “the life” for a normal life proves harder than she’d expected.
Soon, Kat’s friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to bring Kat back into the world she tried so hard to escape. But he has a good reason: a powerful mobster has been robbed of his priceless art collection and wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat’s father isn’t just on the suspect list, he is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.
For Kat, there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it’s a spectacularly impossible job? She’s got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family’s history–and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way.
Review: Katarina Bishop’s plan for a normal life falls apart with one audacious school prank that creates a shout out to modern art. No one believed her when she said she’s innocent and that she wasn’t the one to add the headmaster’s Porsche to the top of the fountain in the quad. The real culprit is her friend Hale and returning to Kat’s plan for a normal life is put aside when she finds out that her Dad is in trouble. Someone stole priceless artwork from a mobster and he wants them back or lives will be lost. Daydreams of being normal and attending one of the best private schools in the world are put on a back burner. First, Kat has to save her Dad. Then, she can be boring and have a normal life.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself! It was a great adventure mystery novel with several twists that I didn’t foresee. I still have no idea who Visily Romani is and I wonder what happened to Kat’s Mom. It’s not the last we’ve seen of this particular gang of misfits, and I think there’s much more to the eye than what’s been shown on one Amelia Bennett. I’m not quite convinced that Kat’s Dad or Uncle Eddie didn’t have their hands dipped in the whole convoluted shenanigans that takes place in Heist Societ. Due to the manner of maze-like plots, I have to wonder if the whole thing wasn’t setup to draw Kat back into the family calling. I may never find out but I look forward to reading more of the series! I’m delighted to find another author I’m sure to enjoy reading.
